Have you wanted to standardize KPIs and reporting across multiple sites? Wondered if you could automatically track when critical events occur? Identify when and where there is excessive energy use? Each one of these business problems can be modeled and addressed with PI AF, quickly and with relatively few templates and attributes.
The Asset Based PI Example Kits demonstrate how to address simple, industry-specific business problems with PI AF and other asset-based PI tools.
Each example kit is a downloadable ZIP file that contains the PI AF database definitions and related files used to address a business use case. It allows you to install and explore in your own PI AF Server common use cases such as:
The example kits were created using industry experience and lessons learned from helping our customers address their business problems in PI AF.
Each kit contains:
These playlists on our OSIsoft YouTube
Learning Channel will help you learn how to create PI AF templates, assets, analytics, and visualization.
The kits are most useful for PI Admins and those with a working knowledge of the PI System. You will need permission to create PI AF databases and PI tags on your PI Data Archive to set up the kits.
Not a PI Admin? You can still watch the videos from the kits, ask questions, and see if it’s something you want to share with your PI Admin. Or - look into getting a subscription to the Virtual Learning Environment to explore already-installed kits on OSIsoft's Microsoft Azure environment.
Want to know what a kit looks like and includes? Check out these videos that describe the use case, templates, hierarchy, etc. for the published kits:
Don't have the minimum software versions or access to a PI AF Server? Many of the example kits can be explored in our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The VLE uses OSIsoft's Microsoft Azure environment to host a fully functional PI System with many of the example kits installed, configured, and running. Just launch the "Asset Based PI Example Kits" lab to start exploring the problems that can be solved with asset-based PI.
You will need access to a PI AF Server and at a minimum, permissions to create an AF database. Each kit user guide contains information on the required software versions, which range from PI AF Server 2014 R2 with PI Analysis Service 2014 R2 to PI AF Server 2015 R2 with PI Analysis Server 2015 R2. PI Data Archive 2012 is also a minimum requirement.

The example kits are available to all customers and partners and can be found using the document pages below. They can also be found on the Tech Support Download Center.
We are currently working on additional kits that address other business use cases and for other industries. Follow this page or check back often to see if we've published a new kit.
In the meantime, the kits we have published have a lot of great information and guidance, and you can help us figure out which kits to create next by letting us know what industry and business problems you are interested in below.
