The Asset Based PI Example Kits demonstrate how to address simple, industry-specific business problems with PI AF and other asset-based PI tools.
Each example kit is a downloadable ZIP file that contains the PI AF database definitions and related files used to address a business use case. It allows you to install and explore in your own PI AF Server common use cases such as:
The example kits were created using industry experience and lessons learned from helping our customers address their business problems in PI AF.
Each kit contains:
Learn how asset-based PI tools have been used to implement a simple example that calculates and tracks the cost of the most common equipment and building utilities – gas, water, and electricity.
This example kit contains XML files for new units of measure and a PI AF database with templates, an example hierarchy, and configuration for demo data. A PI ProcessBook display and a User Guide are also included.
The 2016C version of this kit contains updates to the units-of-measure, renaming of several attributes, and changes to the usage calculations.
Use of this kit requires the following minimum software versions:
- PI Data Archive 2016 R2,
- PI AF Server 2016 R2,
- PI Analysis Service 2016 R2,
- PI System Explorer 2016 R2,
- and PI ProcessBook 2015.

You will need access to a PI AF Server and at a minimum, permissions to create an AF database. Each kit user guide contains information on the required software versions, which range from PI AF Server 2014 R2 with PI Analysis Service 2014 R2 to PI AF Server 2015 R2 with PI Analysis Server 2015 R2. PI Data Archive 2012 is also a minimum requirement.
