Hey everyone!

For those wanting to get hands-on with Events in the PI System, we are developing two great labs for vCampus Live Dec 3-5 in San Francisco!

Hands-On with PI Event Frames Generation (Wed Dec 4, 2:30)

In this hands-on session, you will learn how to configure event frame templates and automatically generate events through configuration. In the first part of the lab, you will generate hierarchical events via trigger tags using the released PI Event Frames Generator (PI EFGen). In the second part of the lab, you will generate events using PI AF and performance equation syntax via the soon to be released Asset Based Analytics functionality. You will learn how to associate different types of events with the equipment on which they occurred and store relevant data with the events. Come learn how to automatically generate events in the PI System! This course requires no programming/development skills.

Hands-On with PI Event Frames Visualization (Thu Dec 5, 3:45)

In this hands-on session, you will learn how to visualize events in the PI System. You will visualize your events using PI Coresight Related Events functionality to automatically discover your events, and view your event data within trends and tables in PI Coresight. Additionally, you will learn how to leverage PI OLEDB Enterprise to view PI Event Frame data in PI WebParts. Finally, you will have some hands-on experience with the soon-to-be-released PI DataLink functionality that will support PI Event Frames! Come learn how to visualize events in the PI System! This course requires no programming/development skills.

You can see the full agenda here:

If you've seen the demos that Chris Nelson and I have given at UC2014 or more recently at EMEA UC2014 with the Mine Trucks, you will get a chance to build that demo in our two labs!  So the only pre-requisites are that (1) you want to get your hands-on EF and (2) either you or your kids love trucks like mine do!

Need to register?

Looking forward to seeing everyone in SF!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that we now have the first set of releases for PI Event Frames (congrats to all our developers working on EF)!!!

With these releases, customers can now create events automatically in the PI System, query the PI System for events and integrate this data into external systems and tools like Power Pivot, and customers can now view event attributes and perform event based trends using PI Coresight. Here's a summary of our recent releases:

  • PI Event Frames Generator - Generate events using trigger tags in the PI Server (part of the PI Server 2012 release)
  • PI Data Access 2012 - supports access to time-series data, assets, and events from the PI Systemfor custom application programming and integration into tools and systems like Microsoft Office or SQL Server, Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERPs), Web portals, maintenance systems, and others.
  • PI Coresight 2012 R2- the first PI Client to support PI Event Frames with Related Events functionality!
    • Event Discovery - Automatically discover related events like downtime, process excursions, startups, batches, and others on your assets giving you a full picture of what happened over a time period.
    • Event Attributes - View event attributes that give you the relevant data related to your event so that you know whether to investigate further or move on to the next problem.
    • Event Trending - Quickly analyze your event on a trend with all the related process data of your asset, in context of your event.
    • Event Relative Analysis - Easily analyze the data items on your display in the context of your events.

We are just getting started with these releases and are working on more PI Event Frames support throughout the PI System right now (come to our User Conference 2013 to see and learn more about this work!!!)

To all vCampus members and PI Event Frames fans,

We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the PI Event Frames Generator BETA!

PI Event Frames Generator (PIEFGen) can be configured to automatically create events (event frames) from trigger tags in the PI Server.  PIEFGen:

  • generates event frames from trigger tags in the PI Server
  • leverages event frame templates
  • writes to event frame attributes
  • handles complex hierarchical events like batches
  • provides a way to migrate existing PI BaGen configurations forward to the new tool to generate events in PI Event Frames

Here's a screen shot of some event frames I created with PI Event Frames Generator:

Additionally, there is a new PI Event Frame Configuration Utility BETA to use in conjunction with PIEFGen, shown below.

We are looking for some feedback around the provided feature set, enhancement requests, feedback on the new configuration utility, and feedback on migration of existing PI Batch Generated (PI BaGen) configurations to PIEFGen.  Hopefully you're interested and can provide some feedback to our team within the next 3 to 4 weeks.

For a full list of system requirements, see the Release Notes.

Here is a link to the Beta User Manual.

If you're interested in trying out the new PI Event Frames Generator BETA or if you have any questions about it, please send a request and then we can provide you access to the download via the OSIsoft Tech Support site.

Feel free to provide us feedback at or in the Event Frames Discussion Hall.
