Developing Applications with PI AF SDK online course: Note on Exercises

Version 5

Please note that the tasks in the exercises are meant to reinforce key concepts that you have learned in the video lectures!  We encourage you to get more creative and use the exercises only as pointers. If you wish, you can share the exercises with the facilitators. However, please note that the facilitators will NEVER ask you to share proprietary information with the class. Additionally, anything shared with the facilitators as proof of work will be destroyed at the end of the course.

A Virtual Learning Environment is not provided with this class.  You will be using your own PI System and Windows PC.   All exercises should be done in:

    • Visual Studio 2013 or later,
    • Using PI AF SDK 2016 R2 ( or later, which generally is the same version as your PI System Explorer,
    • Targeting the .NET Framework 4.5.2 or later.

The theme of this workshop is weather. You are going to create some applications to monitor the weather conditions of some important American cities: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Washington.  This requires creating 30 PI points temporarily on your PI Data Archive.  You may delete these points upon completion of the course.

Additionally, Exercise 5 will ask that you create 3 more PI points on your PI Data Archive.  Again, they may be deleted when you are finished with this class.

This version of PI AF SDK comes with two different assembly versions ( and as explained in the video lectures. Please ensure you are using version as shown in the image below:
