Exercise 5 - Once you have viewed the videos on configuring a PI Interface, create a new instance of the PI Interface for OPC DA on machine PIINT1. Configure it to collect data from the local OPC Server, OPCSample.OpcDa20Server.1, and send data to your PI Data Archive, PISRV1. In the Configuring a Simple PI System - Cloud Environment, we have already configured the proper DCOM security using the interface service account (pischool\PIInterfacesServiceAc) so that you do not have to go through it yourself in this class. The latest password for this service account should be found in the description field in Active Directory Users and Computers on PIDC. For more information on the necessary steps to configure DCOM security, you can see our DCOM Security Configuration Guide.

For non-Cloud Environment users, examine an existing interface and answer the following questions:

  • Which PI Data Archive does the interface write to?
  • What is the point source and interface ID of the interface? How many points does this interface have?
  • What is the data source? If it is an OPC server, where is it located?
  • Is the interface using mappings or trusts to authenticate to the PI Data Archive?
