Hi,

I have a installation of PI notifications that stopped working for some reason.

The IT dept. changed some firewalls arround the time the error occured. I've told them to make sure that all nessesary ports are open.

Clients to AF: 5457-5459 + 5463

AF to PI: 5450

PI to AF: 5457-5459

The service only times out when I try to start it:

I'm unable to locate any logs. I see that the service account generate a logon followed by a logoff event when the service is started (and terminated).

Any suggestions? Is it possible to run PI Notifications interactive so that I might can see what's happening?

No logs in PI-SDK.

Nothing in PIPC.log..

I've configured all PINotifications_XXXXX.config files to log "all"

EDIT:

Version information:

OS: 2012 R2

AF: 2015 R2 (and analytics)

Data Archive: 2015 R2

Check your Windows Event Viewer under "Applications and Services Logs" / AF.

What is your architecture? Is the Notifications Scheduler on the same machine as the AF Server or a different one? Is the SQL Server hosting the AF database on the same machine or a different one? The reason I ask is perhaps the firewall changes are A) preventing the scheduler from contacting the AF server, or B) preventing the AF server from accessing its database.

SQL and Notification on same server. PI Data Archive on remote server.

Nothing in Windows Event logs either only same as error message above (service terminated).

The AF log doesn't log information regarding Notifications, I have checked while this error occures and nothing there.

Hello Andre,

Please check the Application log, too. Not all messages are in the AF log. Analysis for example write to the Application log.

Checked that log as well.

Basically I've checked all "normal" logs, Application, Security, System, AF.

PI SDK logs

PIPC.log

Nothing...

Re-installed (both un-installl-->Install and repair)

Rebooted

Hello Andre, I found that this is usually related to the KB00281
Short version:

Solution #1:

Checked PINotificationsManager.exe.config, PIAnalyticsProcessor.exe.config, and PIAnalyticsScheduler.exe.config for the following:

<configuration>
  <runtime>
     <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false" />
  </runtime>
</configuration>

Solution #2:

Add service account to local admin group

Already have this configuration and account already member of local administrators group.

Created TS case on this #705803.

I'll post the results.

To share with others the case resolution. It was to add

<runtime>

     <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false" />
</runtime>

in PIAnalyticsScheduler.exe.config.

Overlooked PIAnalyticsScheduler.exe.config since it didn’t have the runtime section.

Adding this solved my issue!

Solution:

Add the following section to PIAnalyticsScheduler.exe.config:

<runtime>
<generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false" />
  </runtime>

PIAnalyticsScheduler.exe.config:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
  <configSections>
    <section name="ANCustomSection"
          type="OSIsoft.AN.Service.ANAnalyticsSchedulerConfiguration, OSIsoft.PIAnalytics.Common, Version=1.0.777.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=6238be57836698e6"
    />
  </configSections>
  <runtime>
    <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false" />
  </runtime>
  <ANCustomSection TargetSystem="MyDataArchiveServer" TraceSwitch="Error,Warning,Information,All" />
</configuration>
