Problem Description:


Part 1

Create an event frame generation analysis that tracks out of control periods in the tire press at the PI Big Tires Company. Out of control periods are defined when the following situations are ALL true at once.

  • The Internal temperature is above 25 deg C
  • The lid is closed
  • The curing phase is in the loading phase

The event frame should close when the lid opens. To share your work, generate data for the last 30 days and search for all of the events that show your process was out of control.

When searching for a large number of event frames, you can "Add Criteria" > "Results Per Page" and extend the default of 1,000 events returned to 100,000 so that you can identify the total number of events that you generated.




Part 2

The out-of-control events that you found above are vital pieces of information for your company, but you recently found out that the parameters changed for this type of event. Your tires can withstand higher temperatures, so out-of-control events only need to be recorded when the Internal Temperature is above 28 deg C. You will want to make sure that old/existing event frames conform to the updated temperature specifications. How many events in the last 30 days show out-of-control process excursions now?


Note: You can complete this exercise by using the "PI Big Tires Company" AF Database supplied in the Cloud Environment as well as an XML file zipped in theGetting started: Configuring Analytics with PI AF section. If you do not wish to use the database provided, then you can model the exercise on your own processes.
