Re: I need to migrate all my PE tags to PI AF Analysis. Is there any options for bulk movement?. Any utility available to convert it.

Hi Yuvarajan,
I understand your concern and it can be very painful to migrate your calculations over to PI AF.
PI Asset Framework itself is created to manage various stuff, including your calculations. It is a framework that can make a use of templates and substitution parameters.
We created PI AF so that you don't have to create/change them one by one. But in order to fully take advantage of (templates and Subs. parameters), your Assets need to be organized and template-ized.
And the organization of assets can come from your naming conventions of your PI tags (which would be wonderful). Or other asset management softwares, various schemes that may seem fit for your organization.
Just from the PI tags, it may be difficult to create assets and its hierarchies due to its flatness nature.
PI Builder, an excel plugin provided with PI AF Client, may be the best tool available but above needs to thought out first.
Best,
Jin

1 of 1 people found this helpfulI have looked at some really long performance equations, and if the PI tag names don't tell you what they are, it takes a lot to understand what the PE is actually doing. I generally try to move PE's to analysis as I am building out AF models, because attributes are easier to read than tag names usually, and it is easier for people following behind to see what they have.

1 of 1 people found this helpfulI agree, analyses are superior in many ways including readability. I would avoid creating new PEs now that analyses are available.
I was questioning the need for a mass move of PEs to analyses.

Yep, agreed Sometimes, I just hate going back and trying to figure out how complicated PE's are constructed.

1 of 1 people found this helpfulI see people struggle to troubleshooting analysis as well, especially where the logic has just be copy pasted from PE's. For this reason I would agree, do this on a case by case basis, look to make improvements along the way (there are a lot of nicer functions in Analysis) and take full use of the Analysis "IDE" making the calculations more readable and testable by breaking down key parameters. Just going to analysis for the sake of it sounds like a management decision!
