In ProcessBook Data Set , What type of functions/expressions can i use? Is there anything beyond 'If else' and basic math operators for a given tag?
Could you show me a guide to learn more about complex DataSet and PI DataLink expressions?
Please see this post and let us know if you have further questions: where can I get the PI server reference manual?
Thank you for quick reply Brent, but i am still confused.
The link you've sent i have already seen it but dont know how to apply , on which screen above all? i only know ProcessBook and Datalink.
How can i run this function? in a random excell cell? In DataSets? is it array formula?
What i want to say is those examples are useless for new PI users, there is no single application screen.
and What is Asset Analytics which is mentioned in your post, promoting to use it.
Sorry, I thought you were already familiar with Calculated Data Sets in ProcessBook and using Expressions in DataLink and only needed to find the list of available functions. Sounds more like you understand the basics of these two Client applications and now want to expand your skills to more advanced usage. If that is the goal, then I can suggest a few things to help out.
Here is ProcessBook playlist from our Youtube Learning Channel with Video 10 on Data Sets selected:
OSIsoft: PI ProcessBook II Online Course- Create Datasets to Visualize Client-side Calculations - YouTube
For further details, you can also view videos 39-43 in this list:
OSIsoft: Create a PI Calculation using Performance Equation syntax. v3.2 - YouTube
Or the online documentation: PI ProcessBook
For DataLink, I can suggest the following:
Calculated Data queries: OSIsoft: Obtain calculated values. v4.0 - YouTube
Time Filtered queries: OSIsoft: Obtain time filtered values. v4.0 - YouTube
Using filter expressions: OSIsoft: Obtain filtered values in PI DataLink. v4.0 - YouTube
Using expressions instead of data items: OSIsoft: Obtain PI expressions values and summaries, Part 1. v4.0 - YouTube
And: OSIsoft: Obtain PI expressions values and summaries, Part 2. v4.0 - YouTube
Documentation: PI DataLink
Asset Analytics is feature of PI Asset Framework. You can think of this as taking important or commonly used calculations out of individual (client-side) files and build them into a server-side data model where they are standardized, secured, easily replicable, and most importantly, written to PI tags for fast data retrieval (think calculate-and-save vs. on-demand calculations). For an overview, here are the videos from our online course on the topic:

Thank you Brent , Those youtube playlists were very helpful to understand the basics.
