Is there any way to read information from a .pdf file into PI?
Any hack that can be done to the UFL interface? Work arounds?
Daily Reports are often sent to partners this way.
PDF is a complicated binary format, so I don't think it is going to work.
I think your best bet would be to first convert to a text format, and then use UFL to read the data.
There are free and commercial converters available, or if you feel like developing you could use something like PDFBox to convert the PDF files and copy the text results in an input directory for UFL (maybe as a scheduled task).
next step approach partner and see if we can connect directly to db generating the .pdf in the first place :-)
PDF is much dependent on the way the file is defined. If it is a purely created PDF with all data fields internally identified and named, reading it could be somewhat feasible, complicated though.
But if it is just a scanned document or converted from a word report, etc - it is next to impossible to read it automatically, so like you said - the best option is to connect to the data source.
