When you delete an entire AF database, the SQL tables in the backend aren't cleaned up until the OSIsoft AF Maintenance job is run. The OSIsoft AF Maintenance Job calls the BackgroundJob, which clears out any AF Databases marked for deletion (as well as other tasks). Please see the documentation here for more information: https://livelibrary.osisoft.com/LiveLibrary/content/en/server-v7/GUID-9F9A6129-FC52-4F89-B2C2-94567F706380.
You can manually run the BackgroundJob by following the steps here: https://livelibrary.osisoft.com/LiveLibrary/content/en/server-v7/GUID-91E28D44-D2F5-4FF9-B488-C91A7BA0F929. Please note that if this will cause a significant load on the SQL Server, so it is usually recommended to run this during off-peak hours.
After the BackgroundJob completes, you can shrink the SQL database size by right clicking PIFD > Tasks > Shrink > Database > OK.
Thanks, that's exactly what I needed.
