What platform do you you use PI Manual Web on?
Screen size is also important. We want to use Android smartphones with screen sizes 4.5" to 5", but the current version is in no way optimized for that.
An Android app would be a good alternative as well.
Can you provide a little more detail on the UI issues/concerns you see when using a 4.5-5'' screen?
Also, in regards to your needs, do you have any suggestions for streamlining the user experience (i.e. are there things you don't need to see, things that can be consolidated, too much empty space, etc)?
you can see my suggestion at the bottom of this PI Square discussion, i.e. optimize the use of the upper part of the web page and remove all unnecessary information so that the need for the user to scroll the web page is minimized. A more app-like feeling if possible.
It would be nice with a app to use Manual Logger! Now it seems that Microsoft has deployed a solution to make apps that work on any platform.
Indeed, Microsoft does have a solution to be deployed across multiple platforms. I personally don't consider it that simple though. In reality, it requires a lot of additional testing to verify it works on each and every device, and there are tweaks that need to be performed to work cross-platform. I consider Universal Apps (the Windows solution we are talking about) to be a great solution for Windows-centric devices (Xbox, windows phone, surfaces, etc) with a toe in the water of other platforms.
We use a web-based application for multiple reasons. First, it prevents the need to install any sort of application client-side (every OS these days has a browser). Second, the vendors of such browsers (large companies like Microsoft, Apple, and Google) have spent significant time and resources ensuring browsers do work on each and every device. Lastly, it provides an easier management for our customers (such as yourself) and potential end-users (plant-floor engineers or lab technicians)...most problems will likely be resolvable web-server side otherwise you can inform end-users of general troubleshooting steps like clearing cache and/or restarting the browser (speaking generally).
Sean, Maybe what was pointed out here by Magnus is Xamarin and not universal apps. See: Microsoft to acquire Xamarin and empower more developers to build apps on any device - The Official Microsoft Blog
Yes it was that I meant!
I am not sure if this should be under Windows but we user Manual Logger Web on a Windows tablet.
Definitely under Windows...unless I'm missing something.
Other: anything running HTML5. But that would mainly be windows, but not always supporting WIA / WIS / Kerberos
And did i mention: preferrably integrated with PI Vision?
