I recently created my first point in PI. I basically copied all parameters from an existing point, but I cannot get anything but Pt Created on my Current Values list. Did I miss a step here somewhere.
Jim, can you provide some details for the point definition? Every point has a point source that determines where the data source is.
Is the point you copied getting data? If both points are trying to read from the same interface based source, your point may have been rejected because the data source already exists.
If you can provide the data for both points (original and yours), it will help.
Try to provide the following attributes:
point source, exdesc, instrument tag, location 1,2,3,4,5
Thanks for the response. This PI system was set up by OSISoft for us about 1 month ago and they did all the original point creation. I was(and still am for a short term) running an IFix system with Proficy Historian. OSiSoft ported all my Proficy tags over and back-filled all my data. I am now beginning to add new tags. We are getting our PI data from an IFix interface. The tag is in my PLC and also in my IFix system and in Proficy Historian. I made a printout of a tag I know works and copied the parameters verbatim into the new tag.
Point source is same as other point - BAK, this points at my IFix system.
Exdesc - Nothing here for either point
Location 1 - set to 1 on both points.
Location 4 - set to 1 on both points.
All other locations set to 0 on both tags
I went in under PI System Management Tools, chose points, point builder and built my point there. I see no errors in my session record. When I look under current values, I only see Pt Created even after 2 hours. Its like I missed a step somewhere, but I am not sure where.
Either use PI SMT or PI Builder add in in Excel and compare the config. Check that the config is the same, InstrumentTag is the bit of info you are missing for me. The only other thing I can think of is that the tag has not actually been updated, so check the value of the original tag. The only other test I can think of, without more information is to put the tag in a different scan class, that is Location4. With OPC DA interfaces, over Matrikon Tunneller, I have seen a similar issue with new tags, so sometimes they need to be tickled, so just resubmit the tag config again, maybe make a slight change to the descriptor.
Kindly import the Tag showing 'pt created' and also a tag updating real time with PI SMT.
Ensure the instrumenttag attribute of the PI Point is correct from the PLC.
Location 1 should be same as the interface ID
Set your location 4 (Scan Class) to 2 or 3.
Confirm your point source is correct.
Check if the data is updating in the PI OPC Interface node with PI OPC Tool or Client tool.
Export by editing the PI Point.
Hope this help.
The above suggestions should help. As a reminder, make sure the following:POint source: Use same as the other tags configured for this interface:
Location 1: Same as the other tags configured:
Location 2 = 0 (for values that will flow to PI Data Archive)
Location 3 = not used for the Ifix interface
Location 4 = use same as defined in the other ones (1 should be fine)
Instrument tag = This is the main configuration step, make sure the instrument tag is properly set. For the iFix interface, you need to include the following format: Node,Tag,Field (check the other tags and make sure you have all the information required for the tag)
Pointtype = In some cases, if the point type of the tag is not properly set, the tag will not receive values. Define the pointtype as Float16, float32, float 64, int16, int32, digital, or string according.
Let us know if you continue having issues or if you have any problem trying to define any of these attributes
Hi Jim McGrath , were you able to solve the problem with the tag? If that is the case, please close the thread by selection a correct answer. Thank you!
