# Convert gas flow rate tag from MMSCF to Ksm3

Hi,

My customer request to me the following calculation, the total gas flow rate every 24 hours. I can made totalizer tags for calculation this requirement. The problem consist in the following, for creating the totalizer tags my source tag( the gas flow rate per hour) is coming in MMSCF eng units, but I must to convert this unit to Ksm3 for later on get the totalizer values in this unit.

How I can convert my totalizer source tag(tag with values in MMSCF)to ksm3 and use this new source tag in Ksm3 unit for calculating the totalizer tag(total gas rate for each 24 hrs).

The customer said that the convert factor from MMSCF to Ksm3 is multiplying by 1000 and divided by 35.29,but I'm not really sure about that

PD: I can't use AF convert tables.

Hi Jose,

you can do it with the conversion factor setting in options tab of the SMT totalizer plugin (conversion attribute).

This is usually used to conver from your source rate tag units to units/day which are the units the totalizer assumes (for example if your source rate tag were units/hour). Nevertheless it can be used as well to perform any intended unit conversion as the one you want to do. With respect to the specific unit conversion required to change from MMSCF to Ksm3 from what i googled it seems it is the one you said (multiplying by 1000 and divided by 35.29) but I'm not an expert in the area

Hi Ana,

Thanks for your response, I did the conversion directly from totalizer tags. Now, the customer wish do a recalculation of this totalizer tags using the new conversion, in our case is 28.33 from January 1st at midnight until January 27th at midnight. The totalizer tags has values from this period until January 27th  using and wrong conversion factor(24).

My question is possible do the recalculation for the totalizer tags from January 1st from midnight until January 27th at midnight?. How could I do?

Hi Jose,

There's no easy way to "recalculate" a totalizer. This is because it uses snapshot values for calculating instead of values from archives.

You could perform the calculation manually offline and backfilling later. I n this thread PI Totalizer recalculation Marcos Vainer Loeff suggested to use a custom AF application.

THis comment probably won't help you a lot to solve your problem, but these issues are exactly those that AF resolves for you. UOM calculations builtin, and Analytics can be backfilled. If you have a chance to push towards using AF...

Hi Jose. I know this calculation as....

kSm3 = MMScf * 1000000 / 35.3145 / 1000

* 1000000 converts MMScf to Scf

/ 35.3145 converts Scf to Sm3

/ 1000 converts Sm3 to kSm3

So your conversion factor in Totalizer would be  1/35.3145*1000000/1000 (or 1/35.3145*1000) = 28.31698028

If they want 35.29 as the Scf/Sm3 conversion then your conversion factor would be 28.33663927

I will replace the value 24 on Totalizer(wrong value) and I put the new conversion factor 28.33663927

Keilan, I forgot to mention, the new eng units will be Sm3 using 28.33 in totalizer tags.
