Does any of you guys know how can I read the points annotations?, I have an app that stores comments on annotations and need to retrieve then using webapi, Any ideas?
Annotations are not exposed through PI Web API. See Does The PI Web API Provide Access To Annotations?
What's your use Case?
I have some manual data for mechanical equipment reliability data(corrective, scheduled and utilization stop hours) captured via an excel sheet and they enter some comments on the reasons for the shutdown, etc. I would line to display this comments in a web page along with the calculated reliability values, charts, etc.
Does that Equipment exist in AF. You could create a "Comment" attribute and reference it to a String type PI point.
If you are dealing with just PI Points, and like to stick with PI Annotations, could using AF SDK be an option for you?
To add to Gregor's approach, you can write your own web API using ASP.Net Web API 2. It is a bit more work, but not really that difficult.
I learned a lot with your AF sdk videos....Do you have some sample code to gain access to PI Points annotations thru web services or how can I do my own?
Create EventFrames (planned shutdown, downtime, etc) and allow one of the EF Attributes to receive comments for the creation of the Event Frame. Then everything is exposed via PI Web API.
Any plans to expose annotations on webapi?
Currently, in the product backlog, there are no plans to expose PI Point annotations. We plan to expose Event Frame annotations with the new features in AF 2.8. Otherwise, either Gregor or Rhys's approaches can be workarounds.
