Can PI Coresight be installed on a Windows 7 SP1 64-bit OS?
Officially, in the system requirements, you should use a Server OS.
PI Coresight - System Requirements
Installation on Client OS might be possible but not a recommend/supported configuration.
Which product version must be used for the installation?
I recommend to use PI Coresight 2016 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
For use on Windows 7 SP1 x64, which setup will work? Because, neither the PI Coresight 2016 setup, nor its beta version worked on the machine.
Again, I need to emphasize that we do not support installing on Client OS. I have seen PI Coresight 2016 installed on Windows 10 before but not on Windows 7. Why don't you use a VM with a Server OS to install PI Coresight if it is for your own practice?
Please make sure to read all pre-requisites for PI Coresight 2016 are available.
Coresight is based off MS Internet Information Services (IIS). From the look of our product page, IIS 7.5 can be used to install PI Coresight, though not recommended.
Please try following below to enable IIS feature but you need to have at least Professional edition.
Installing IIS 7.5 on Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate
After installing IIS, you also need to enable the right features for PI Coresight. This is entailed within PI Coresight manual.
Extract the setup.exe some folder, then edit the setup.ini file before running setup.exe to work around the "unsupported operating system" error. I run the full stack on my laptop (PI, AF, Coresight) because I need a quick system I can demo without using VM's, also I can't join VM's to my corporate domain and I need AD integration so it's a workaround but I'm happy with it. I have the PI Web API and crawler running as my domain account (which is a local admin, and a piadmin) and have the Coresight app pools running as this account also.
In setup.ini, scroll down to [UNSUPPORTED_OPERATING_SYSTEMS]
delete Win7 Win8 etc.
While doing this will prevent the install kit from throwing the error message, and it appears that the setup works for Keilan, it's still an unsupported operating system and our recommendation is to use a server OS. Coresight was not designed for or tested against a client OS.
