It would be good if you can provide some screenshots of the error messages when PB2014 stops responding (such as event viewer logs or pop up windows). It might be some known issues present in PB2014 that were fixed in PB2015.
I don't understood if you reinstalled PB2014? If not please uninstall PB2014 and Batch View if you use it and install again.
Visual Studio probably registered some system libraries which are different now. Complete reinstall of PB can solve your issue.
Which version of VS did you installed, if I can ask?

Based on your description, it sounds like you are encountering a known issue:
What is the version of the AF SDK installed on the machine? If you must use ProcessBook 2014, perhaps you could change the version of AF SDK as a workaround?
