Hi there...we have a group looking to create a PI Coresight display that would have documents links embedded in them and they would like for the documents when selected. Is this possible in Coresight? We are currently on Coresight 2014.
That is an excellent question.
It depends on the location of the documents. For this to work, the documents must be reachable by a Web URL (common method is to store the documents on sharepoint). For Coresight 2014, linking the Documents needs to be done in Processbook Displays. In the Coresight 2014 release notes, there was the following note: Button links can only link to web pages or to other displays in the same import folder.
The Processbook display can then be imported into Coresight 2014 where the user will click on the buttons that directs them to the document being hosted in a Web URL.
You can something similar with Coresight 2016 which has a new object that allows users to have plain text on a display. The plain text can act as a hyperlink to the webPage hosing the document:
Unfortunate, that option cannot be down in Coresight 2014 where the Text Symbol has not been created yet
Please give this a try and if you have issues or questions, please let me know. I'd be happy to clarify further
I have a ProcessBook Display that has a DataLink object embedded within the display and would like to display in Coresight. When I view this report in ProcessBook on our Coresight web server, it displays correctly; however, through Coresight, the display is blank. We are currently running Coresight 2016 (not R2).
I deeply apologize for not seeing your inquiry.
Looking into your issue, I'm assuming that you are embedding Microsoft Excel in Processbook that has Datalink queries in the Excel Object?
Is that correct? I'm trying to replicate what you are seeing. If it's possible, please upload an example file or you can send it to me through email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Yes, that is correct Jesse. I will send you the example.
Thanks for the examples. I was able to reproduce what you are seeing and looked into the root cause of the issue that you are seeing.
I see that you are embedding an Excel Spreadsheet in the Processbook display using ActiveX controls.
This is not supported. Coresight (or should I say PI Vision now) transforms PDI files into SVG files. Embedded Excel sheets are not able to be translated to SVG so naturally, they don't show up in PI Vision.
We don't have any enhancement requests with regards to this so if it's critical please create an entry at:
The only way to see your spreadsheets online and retrieve live data would be to use sharepoint and Datalink Server.
Let me know if you have any questions or need further clarification.
