Is it possible to force piopc interface (configured with a opc server-level failover) to switch to backup/primary opc server without using watchdog tags on opc servers?
I am unsure what is the reason why you want to do this, is it because you want to manually force a failover?
If this is the case, if you stop the primary this should force the failover and the backup will then become the primary.
If you give us a bit more details that may help in case I missed the point!
Have a nice day,
the point is that we have restricted control on the OPC Server machines and we would be able to force the interface to use a specific server for testing pourposes or during production issues.
For example, with opcint failover, it is possible to change the UFO active tag value to force switching to primary/backup.
I was wondering if it is possible a similar approach also for opc-server-level failover. I don't find any explicit information in the interface documentation.
If you need further details about how the OPC Server-level failover works, please check our Live Library here.
Our PI Interface solution for OPC Server-level failover is mainly based on watchdog points.
In case you have a failover pair of PI Interface for OPC DA, you can take advantage of this and configure your interface instances as follows:
PI OPC Int 1 --> Primary OPC Server A, Backup OPC Server B
PI OPC Int 2 --> Primary OPC Server B, Backup OPC Server A
With this configuration, when you force the failover of your PI OPC Int 1, it will switch to the backup PI OPC Int 2 which is already connected to the OPC Server B.
If you need more help about this configuration, our Technical Support team will be happy to assist you.
I don't believe it is possible to force an OPC server-level failover using a PI tag. There isn't a tag available for that. Wessam Manoun's suggestion of configuring each redundant PI-OPC interface to use a different OPC server as their primary is a good one.
