I would like to know if there is a way for one AF database to reference data existing on another AF database on a different AF Server?
Thanks for your help
Yes you can!
My preferred method is to store the data in a PI Point, and then refer to the source AF attribute in your PI Point DR. Use the following format: \\AFserver\AFdatabase\Element\chileElement|Attribute
You can do the same in the formula DR for non-PI Point values.
That is absolutely the way to go!To keep track of everything, if you have many AF Servers, you may potentially also want to have the path in separate sub-attribute so one can easily see what server it comes from. But in general, you will definitely want to do as Roger Palmen mentioned.
Good point! Sub attributes for the Attribute or PI Point in the PI Point DataReference is a best practice.
E.g. take a look at the recent Asset-based example kits.
I appreciate the help everyone. Thanks for the good advice
