Wondering what the procedure is for relocating a vCampus edition of a PI Server installation ?
I guess you are talking about moving or migrating the PI server to another hardware in this case. There is no difference in terms of the procedures to move any PI server installation from 1 hardware to another.
If you need the detailed information about how to perform this, you can refer to the Library section, under "vCampus Product Kit -> Server Product -> PI server -> PI Server Installation and Upgrade Guide". There is a chapter that talks more about this.
The only thing that you might need to watch out for is to generate a new license for the PI server based on the new hardware.
Hope this helps =)
BTW, for generating your license file, you can navigate to the Download Center section and there should be a small section on the top right-hand corner, just under your user name that says "My License Activation" There is a link that will bring you to the website that allows you to generate your PI server license. =)
I had already generated the file for my old hardware. Looking to move the server to my new machine. When I went to activate the new machine I was instructed that it did not match the machine signature on file and that I had to open a tech support ticket (which I did -> 282970)...
I assume this is the "normal" method for relocating a server ?
Just got a message that tech support has granted the move so it looks like I am all set up.
Yeah, The MSF file that is used to generate the license contains the hardware information of the server hardware. And when you have generated a license with another MSF (or another set of hardware) before, then this information is saved on our server.
If there is a significant change in hardware information or like this case moving the PI server to a new hardware, then you will need to contact the Tech Support team to allow a new license file to be generated with a new MSF file.
In this case, significant changes are like adding new drives or changing the operating system or network card etc.
