    HA PISDK

    formerpigeek
Hi, We are developing a system which needs to support High Availability, to achieve this on the PI Server we are making use of PI Collective Manager. When a client application connects to the PI Server through the PI SDK V1.3.8 and send an updated value to the server does it need to send the value to all the servers in the collective? If the PI SDK needs to send the data for all the Servers for data synchronization then can we use PI API along with PI Buffering and will PI API take care of connecting to any of the available server in case of failure of the Primary PI Server? Thanks & Regards Kavita

Client side buffering is supported in PISDK 1.4.x, which is due H2 2010. When using PISDK 1.3.8, you will have to manually iterate trough the collective members and perform your update action on each server. There are some samples/topics available on that here on vCampus.

PI API does support buffering, but PI API is not supported on vCampus. For questions about PI API, you should contact Techsupport

@Michael: Sure sounds like a standard OSIsoft answer that you pull out from one of us (OSIsoft Staff) =] but you are right on this.

@Kavita:Here's a reference from Sam that you can look at, very nice blog post on this topic I would say.

Han Yong:  Thanks for the reference link. Michael: We do have PI API available along with our vCampus license, so do you mean if we use these API in our application it won't connect and update the PI Server? Thanks & Regards Kavita

@Kavita: let me be clear: the vCampus license does NOT provide development rights for the PI API, although some of its files may be installed in order for some of our own products to use. The PI API is governed by a completely separate licensing (which you may or may not have) and you need to handle these issues at Tech Support - not vCampus.
