Is there anyway I can create a contact group using the AF SDK? I found a way to add a new contact, but it wouldn't let me set the contact type...
I am not sure that I understand your question. If you are in PI System Explorer > Contacts, you can select the "Groups" folder and by right-click you have the option to create a New Group - are you looking for something different?
Andreas, I think they mean programmatically using AFSDK/ANSDK.
Yes, I meant programmatically using AF/AN SDK. We have something similar to PINotification that we've been using for years. Instead of manually converting our old database for the homebrew notification system, I'm working on a program to automatically create all the contacts, groups, elements, and notifications in AF.
I think you are referring to creating a contact using the AFNotificationContact, that class has a property called 'ContactType', you should be able to assign the Type of contact you are creating, either Individual, Group or Escalation.
Is this what you are looking for?
There is more information on the AFSDK reference found in the vCampus Library, search for 'AFNotificationContactType Enumeration', 'AFNotificationContact.ContactType Property' and 'AFNotificationContact Class'
That's what I wanted! Thanks
While I'm at it... is there a help document or something with all the different object types and desriptions for AFSDK (like the one for PISDK)?
I downloaded the AF SDK Programming Reference.chm and AN SDK Programming Reference.chm mentioned in this post:
but I'm getting a "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" error when I open them [:'(]
Well as long as contact groups within AF are concerned they can only be loaded from ActiveDirectory; you cannot use AF SDK to create a new one programmatically.
See Ming FungI downloaded the AF SDK Programming Reference.chm and AN SDK Programming Reference.chm mentioned in this post: http://vcampus.osisoft.com/forums/t/924.aspx but I'm getting a "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" error when I open them [:'(]
You may want to check if some tip on this page helps you.
More info on the topic here, as other people already reported that behaviour with CHM files.
