Writing Null Values to string, int32, float32,...

I am programically writing data from an inspection system into PI. The inspections are about 10 seconds and they run about every 4 minutes. I am using a processbook trend to display the data. Once I write the data to PI for a particular scan, I am currently setting all the points to 0 to clear them for the next scan. I was wondering if there is a way I could write a null value so that I do not show the data as being continuous. One of the issues is that at the beignning and the end of the inspection, al of the PI points have the lines going up and then back down to zero at the end. I wish that I had no data (no lines) in between scans. This is why I am looking to have a null value. Something like how a PI point trend data looks when it goes offline and then back online again.

Thank you for your help on this.
