For getting LIMS data in to PI.
I guess a PI ODBC license is used in many cases, but will this create a lot of tags?
Will the data be stored in a SQL base for PI datalink to access those data?
Just to clarify this portion of the original post: "I guess a PI ODBC license is used in many cases"; the method that Sebastien is mentioning will be using the ODBC driver for the data source, not the PI ODBC driver. The PI server communication is handled natively by the PI RDBMS interface.
While technically you could utilize the PI ODBC driver to write data to the PI Server (via the PI OLEDB Provider), that would be a completely custom written application and will do what the PI RDBMS interface already can do out of the box.
Many of our customers use the PI Interface for Relational Database (RDBMS via ODBC) https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Downloads/File/b4dd116f-1a61-4f51-8224-71d7365bcdf1 to connect to LIMS data. For the number of tags created, if you are using the RDBMS interface you can chose which data points to map to PI Tags and the data will be stored in the PI Data Archive (not a SQL server) and you can access it directly via PI DataLink or preferably through the AF Server.
Hope this helps,
