We'd like to read data from a vision system that outputs TCP\IP. Is there a PI interface that could read TCP\IP? I don't seem to find one.
Thanks in advance!
Most network connected data sources are going to output TCP/IP. This is a lower level set of protocols at the Transport layer. There are no PI interfaces to 'read' TCP/IP directly because the TCP and IP protocols don't provide the type of data that your application is actually providing - TCP/IP is about transferring datagrams across networks.
You need to find out what actual Application or Presentation layer data protocol your vision system uses, and then find an interface that can read this data.
Great answer, thanks John!
Abel, perhaps you could contact the vendor of the vision system and see what they can suggest in terms of accessing this data from a higher level protocol? Once we have a bit more information we hopefully can help find an interface that will suit your needs!
Here's some background by the way on the OSI model that John references regarding protocol layers
