Circular reference in AFAttribute trying to get parent AF Element name with String Builder

I have a reproducible problem with circular references and string builder in an AF hierarcry with two Elements

The top Element1 element does not have any attributes.

The sub-element Element1, only has one attributed named Element1. This attribute should get the value of the parent element name, using String Builder and substitution. Currently I've used %..\Element%

This gives me a circular reference.

If I change the attribute name to be Element2, it does give me the correct name for the parent element: Element1.

Have I understood this correct? Why is it giving me an error?
