Our objective is to push PI data to third party application or database (Example : Oracle ) Can you suggest which one is most preferable one….PI Web API or PI Integrators for BA?
The WebAPI is designed for read operations from the PI Data Archive and PI AF server and write operations to the PI Data Archive and PI AF Server. It is not designed for write operations to outside databases. However, it is feasible but would require significant development work.
The PI Integrator for Business Analytics Data Warehouse edition can publish to Oracle as well as many other db targets. For the most part, it is rather plug and play and you can begin publishing within a manner of hours vs weeks of development work.
A 3rd option would be to use our PI OLEDB tools to facilitate writes to 3rd party databases. This would also involve some development work as you will have to generate the queries and provide the technology to write to the desired target.
If you are interested in using our PI OLEDB providers to solve this problem, I would like to recommend a specific tool: it's Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS). You can configure database-to-database data transfer quite easily. You can invoke transfers manually or schedule them to repeat at an interval. We have some experience with SSIS and did a Learning Lab at our recent User Conference in San Francisco. You can also download white papers from our Technical Support website and search for SSIS in PI Square. Let me know if you would like to talk about your specific use case!
