"Thin Provisioning" of disk space in VM environment

Hi All,

I'm building a PI system in a VM environment for a client.

The disk size requirement for the archives (projected to 10 years) is quite large and the client wishes to use "thin provisioning" (ie the disk size grows as it is used) in order to minimise the immediate "hit" on disk space.

My concern is what happens when a new archive is being automatically generated and the disk needs to grow to accommodate it.  Is this going to cause problems with the archive subsystem?  Has this scenario been tested or has anyone else set up an environment like this?

Cheers,

Ian
