If I needed to change a recorded value (I need to learn how sooner or later) would there be a place to add a comment as to why I was doing this, and would that comment show up in the Audit viewer?
You could add an annotation to the value depending on which tool you use- OSIsoft or 3rd party. I know PI Value changes are tracked if you have enabled auditing, but I do not know what you should expected for creation of an annotation record.
As Dan mentioned, this is exactly what annotations are for. There are many ways to annotate an event and the method you chose will be dependent on how you will modify the data. The simplest way to do so if you only have to change one value, is to use PI System Management Tools (SMT) -> Data -> Archive Editor
If you need to modify a lot of data and add annotations that may be from other files, you can also interfaces such as PI-UFL.
You can find more information on annotations in the documentation.
Thanks Gabriel and Dan, I appreciate the input. I searched a lot yesterday on the website but y’all provided better information than I found ☺
