Exercise 1: where do I find the compression setting? Exercise 2: "Shutdown" values

In exercise 1 it was noted that the current value never made it into the archive and previous archive values disappeared from the archive.  I suspect this is due to compression being turned on.  Is this correct?

I have looked through the PI System Management Tool but could not find this setting - where do I find the compression setting?

After Exercise 2 I noticed in the archive there were values for the tag in Exercise 1 of "shutdown".   Is this value of shutdown because the point is an internally created point within PI so the archive viewed the interface or originating data point as shut down, versus if this data point came from the OPC interface the buffering on the interface would have filled those values on restart and not labeled shut down.
