I wanna go through the pi connectors? kindly explain the difference between PI-ICU and PI-Connector
Both PI collectors and Interfaces collect data from an external data source to send to PI Data Archive. That being said, here are the main differences:
Connectors offer improved performance, improved security, no need to configure buffering as it does it's own buffering mechanism, reduces the need for programs like auto-point syncs (self discovery of points/assets), and offers more flexible deployment options.
I find it neat that within minutes you can auto-build a hierarchy, have points auto-created and start exploring the data instantly. This is really great for a number of customers who just want see the data. Connectors quickly create AF hierarchies, but the realities of business rules and the ways customers want to view data sometimes do not align with what PLC registers might contain. Of course, there are those who use PI and built a lot of intellectual property into their views/models of data and need very specific AF Hierarchies.
