We have existing interface (PI UFL and PI RDBMS ) running on one server. Now we want to shift or move that interface on new server, can you please share how we can migrate the interfaces on new machine without any data loss.
The PI UFL and the PI RDBMS interface have the capability of backfilling data. Is there a particular reason why you are worried about data lost?
If backfilling the missing data is possible, you can simply install the interfaces on the new node as if it was a new installation.
If backfilling is not possible, the migration can be done with minimal data lost. Do you have the PI UFL and PI RDBMS interface going through the PI Buffer Subsystem?
Thanks for your information Sebastien
My best practice is to install and setup the new interfaces on the new node with similar setting as the old ones, but assosiated to
another PointSource temporarily. So I can test them with a few test tags created: check if they can start, connect to the server (and to the datasource) and work properly. If so, I can set the original PointSource, stop the old instances and start the new ones in no time!
(In a lucky situation if the source files for UFL IF are not overwrite themselves, and the source database for the RDBMS has the
historic values, the data loss is can be avoided anyway.)
But if You use buffering, take care, one can bump into situation described in https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Troubleshooting/KB/KB00093 The old node is the owner of the points, so can block the new node to feed them.
Hope it give a little help:Janos
