Is an OSIsoft PSA (PI System Access) license required to make a PI Vision custom symbol? I'm guessing the answer is yes, even if the symbol does not use PI Web API. Is there an official OSIsoft PSA license article and price sheet?
This is a good question and we are looking into this. Someone from the partner team will respond to this thread.
Thank you for looking into it.
Disclaimer first: consult your OSIsoft representative for definitive answer. Things might vary depending on your case. Also i'm not knowledgeable on the exact licensing terms, so statements below only reflect my experiences.
My experience is that you do not need an additional PSA license to display data in PI Vision, even if you e.g. create a custom symbol that goes through the PI Web API. That is covered under the PIV licensing. PSA is only needed if there is a non-PI application that accesses PI data. One would otherwise need to pay twice...
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Roger is correct. A PSA license is not needed to create and deploy a custom PI Vision symbol.
Thank you for your question. First, the PI System Access usage are in our licenses term posted online: https://www.osisoft.com/Templates/Content.aspx?id=9665 For PSA Pricing, please contact the account manager of the customer you are working with to get pricing.
Our current definitions and product usage terms posted online requires PSA for programmatic access to PI System data for non-OSIsoft software program. Since you are developing within the PI Vision applications, there is no requirements for PSA license.
Finally, we would like to remind you that the current PI Vision extensibility is still CTP and changes to the extensibility model will be done before it is officially release.
