I have two interfaces installed on the same machine, and I would like only one of them configured with the Buffer. The other interface would not be configured with the Buffer. It is possible?
This is possible but in general we highly do not recommend bypassing the buffer. Is there a particular use case in which you wish to bypass the buffer?
To get your desired configuration, you'll need first determine how the buffer subsystem is connecting to the PI Data Archives. You can check this through the buffer manager. For example:
These servers are being connected to through host name.
In the interface configuration utility, you'll need to set the interface to connect to the PI Data Archive using a method DIFFERENT from how the buffer is doing it. This is set in the API Hostname settings in the General Tab. In my example, I need to connect the interface to the PI Data Archive using FQDN or IP.
I need a Bypass for a Perfmon Interface, as I need to necessarily monitor all PI Buffer Subsystem performance tags. If there is a problem in the buffer and the interfaces stop, I need the interface to be 100% collecting.
How to change the Host Name API? Is disabled.
Usually, when that option is greyed out, this means that the connection to the PI Data Archive from the ICU does not have write permissions to the Module Database.
Please go to File> SDK Connections and see what permissions the ICU has on the PI Data Archive.
I can not add a new server with the same IP as the first server.
You shouldn't need to add a new PI Server to change the API Hostname. I assume you are trying to add it to get it into the dropdown list?
As mentioned in the previous post, the likely issue here is that the ICU is connecting to the PI Server with not enough permissions to write to the module database. Were you able to determine that information?
I was able to do the Bypass in the Buffer. The "Buffer Status" in the PI CIU is now set to "Off". I had to change the parameter \ hostname in the PI SMT -> DataBase Module to PI IP of the server.
That's an excellent solution. Basically, you are changing the API Hostname by changing it in the Module Database. Effectively, you are doing the job of the ICU itself. Great find!
