I created a performance equation that calculates the rolling monthly average of a tag value (TagAvg). When viewing the tag in process book it only shows data starting at the date the performance equation was created. Is there a way (besides picalc in process book) to populate the historical data for this new performance equation point?

Hi Isaac,

Thanks for posting on PI Square and welcome to the community.

I want to preface this post by saying that overall, we recommend PI AF Analytics to handle calculations that need to be written to the PI Data Archive. Overall, you'll find that AF Analytics has much more options and capabilities as well has performance enhancements. Finally, templatizing these analytics is easier in AF so if you wish to push this calculation to multiple equipments or assets, it will be much faster and more efficient.

Finally, addressing your specific point, backfilling data is much more robust and easy in Analytics than in Performance Equations. For more information about the product please refer to: PI AF Analytics

Here is a KB article detailing the steps for backfilling Performance Equations: Adding Performance Equation Events Prior to Point Creation Time

As you can see, you'll need to write dummy values at every time stamp you would like a calculation before running a recalculation. If the time range is significant, this will take a very large amount of time and effort.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
