      Howdy!

Welcome to the Configuring Analytics with PI AF Online Course! I hope y'all are as exited as I am to get this course off to a great start!

My name is David Smith, and I am a Customer Support Engineer based in the OSIsoft HQ office in San Leandro, CA. I am originally from Austin, TX and graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering before moving out to the bay. As a Customer Support Engineer, I help customers by answering their PI questions, troubleshooting PI issues, performing installations and upgrades, as well as teaching online and in person classes. I'm excited to hear from you and work with you throughout this course!

Please introduce yourself in this thread so I can learn a little more about you, your experience with the PI System, and any specific goals you have for this course. Also be sure to take advantage of this community to share any thoughts or questions you have throughout the course. You can also contact me personally at dasmith@osisoft.com.

I look forward to working with you over the next few weeks!

          Hi David,

My name is Darlene Fletcher, and I am an IT support specialist at an Oil and Gas company in Calgary, Alberta.  We use a 3rd party solution provider to help with our PI support, configuration, monitoring etc.  I am the primary contact internally for business users and coordinate activities with PI and with other systems and am starting to do some basic changes in AF.  I am taking this course to help improve my understanding of the software capabilities to help us evaluate where we might use the tool more effectively, help determine what tasks can be done internally and also be able to discuss/plan the work/requirements more confidently when we have the service provider do the work.  My experience with PI administration is fairly limited so hopefully this course will not be too much of a stretch.  I was planning on using our test environment for the work so won't have any live data coming in - hopefully that will work ok.

          Regards,

          Darlene

            Hi David,

My name is Juan Pablo Avello. I work in a petroleum refinery in Chile and I am the leader for the Control Engineer team. I am Chemical Engineer and my background is mainly in process and operations. My experience with PI is mostly as an end user.

My main goal with this course is learning about PI capabilities, specifically with PI AF. PI has been poorly used in the company for years and I think there are interesting oportunities for developing different tools with PI that can benefit my company.

            Best Regards,

            Juan Pablo

now we have upgraded to Pi vision 2017, I'm still trying to get a good understanding of configuring the tags and using

them for analysis, I hope this class helps

              Thanks

                Hi David,

My name is Jacqueline Greenhill, IT project manager at ENAP, Chile. My experience with the PI System has been through an OSIsoft partner (CONTAC Ingenieros) with whom I've been implementing a web platform that shows a dashboard that takes the data out of PI System. Last month I attended a course in PI Vision, that was very useful to my work, so I am looking forward to learn this new tool.

                Kind regards.

                Jacqueline

                  Hi David,

I have a few questions for you.  In our environment, we have PI tags setup with similar calculations that we are doing using AF.  I assume that was an older method of doing the same thing?  For example, we have a PI tag that calculates the running time of an engine over the last 24 hours using the following expression in the tag.  I assume the AF method is now the preferred method for doing this?  What is the advantage/disadvantage?

                  Tagval  ('KAK_PL_K-150_COMP-ACC-RT.PV', '*') - Tagval ('KAK_PL_K-150_COMP-ACC-RT.PV',  '*-24h')

I am working on a rollup example in my test environment (not using a template for now, just picked one element with 3 children to rollup).  I just installed analysis services in test and it seems to be working.  I created the analysis and it calculates a value when I evaluate it, I also successfully mapped and created a tag for the data, but it still says Pt Created rather than showing a value.  I also did a backfill on it and it does calculate previous data.  Not sure what I am doing wrong or is it some restriction on the test environment?

                  Thanks

                  Darlene
