The PowerShell Tools for the PI System are now included in the PI System Management Tools install kit in versions 2015+. If you are only interested in installing the PowerShell Tools, unfortunately you would need to install SMT 2015 or later, then modify the installation to only include the PowerShell Tools for the PI System.

The only problem with this approch is if I already have a version of PI SMT Installed this process will override current version, at least that was what happen when I did it in my server running PI SMT 2012. Unless there is another way other than using the installer GUI.

The official releases of the Powershell tools for the PI System are only included in the PI SMT installer starting with PI SMT version 2015. I don't believe there is a way to only install the PowerShell tools without installing/upgrading PI SMT.
Is there a particular reason PI SMT cannot be upgraded?
A possible workaround for you would be to install PI SMT version 2015 or newer (we would recommend the latest) on a machine that can be accessed remotely by the machine on which you want to run your PS script. you can then import the module via a PSSession.
The module name is osisoft.powershell.
Hope this helps,
