Output tags are still supported in newer versions of interfaces if they were supported in previous versions.
You're right on the issue of security concerns which is why OSI has moved to offering interfaces in either "read-only" or "read/write" versions so those users that don't plan on writing data back to their data sources that the capability is removed entirely from the interface, thus eliminating that potential vulnerability.
