How to use Tagspan() in AF template without getting Pi Point was not found error

To make the template general, I have four different attributes to collect flow rates for different scenarios. In most case up to two of these attributes will be configured with correct Pi tags.

The rest will have default "config string" which will not a real Pi tag.

I want to use tagspan() function to flag low flow rate situation to end user. I tried to use BadVal() to catch the non-existing Pi tags, but it did not help me.

any suggestions.
