Hey Jeff and everyone else,
My name is James Bell and I work for the Pulp Division at Pan Pac Forest Products in Napier, New Zealand. I'm a Systems Analyst and have been working with PI for many years. I'm hoping to learn more about the newer Analytics features, in particular Roll-ups and Event Frames. I also want to understand best practice with regard to how/when the different PI calculation tools should be used (performance equation tags, totalizer tags, PI-ACE, Analytics).
This is my first online course with OSIsoft and I am looking forward to getting into it!
Sounds good James!
In regards to using the right tool for the job, if you haven't seen it yet, take a look at this KB article which I've also linked in the Getting started: Configuring Analytics with PI AF section - https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Troubleshooting/KB/KB00868/ https://techsupport.osisoft.com/Troubleshooting/KB/KB00868/
The KB article above goes through some general considerations, and if you have more specific questions, feel free to start up a discussion thread (for non-proprietary needs) and if it is something more sensitive to your company, then you can reach me via email for guidance at firstname.lastname@example.org
Enjoy the course and reach out to me and other course participants with any questions!
Like James this is also my first time online course and have been a user of PI for many years. I currently hold the position of Support Manager for Optimate, a System Integrator for PI based in Brisbane, Australia. I've taken this course as an opportunity to learn more about the analytics capability of AF and to echo James's comments, learn 'best practice' for constructing deploying them. So good to have PI Square as the discussion forum tool, I'm a big fan of PI Square!
I agree that PI Square is a great place for questions and tips, so feel free to post anything specific to the course on our Configuring Analytics with PI AF discussion forum. Hope you enjoy the course content and feel free to reach out with any questions or feedback on the exercises.
Hello my name is Aharon
I work over in the control center for Alyeska Pipeline in Alaska. Our section monitors and analyzes non critical maintenance alarms and provides on call support to the controllers, field technicians and automation for questions regarding the control system or automated functions. We have had a PI system since 2001 currently with about 80,000 tags and 10+ interfaces.
Sadly, PI is severely underutilized at our company in large part because we do not have a framework (people, practices, policies, communication, service model) in place to deliver analytics within the company.
I took on the role to change our course and will likely bring on a PI system admin and developer to help build the data foundation needed to get our company to a point where we start using data to make decisions.
I will also be attending the PI Oil & Gas user group meeting in Denver September 20th, hope to see some of you there
