I have a PC having Windows Server 2016 Standard. I have OSISoft-2014-R2 PI Licensed Software.
Can I install this PI Package on this Windows Server-2016..? This OS will be compatible with 2014-PI Softwares..?
Thanks for reaching out to us on PI Square. OSIsoft software released prior to the release date of an Operating System would not have been officially tested on that operating system. It will likely work, but we *can't* guarantee it as it would not have gone through our typical testing standards on a OS that didn't exist at the release of the software.
That being said, would it be possible to use a more recent version of OSI's software that would have been tested on Windows Server 2016? 2014 is a number of years ago and there have been numerous enhancements, bug fixes, and performance improvements to OSIsoft's products since then. I would recommend trying to work with newer version if at all possible.
PI Data Archive 2018 support windows 2016 all versions. PI Data archive 2018 has support fixes and enhancements compared to 2014 version. Request you to check below release notes for additional information.
Are you not eligible for upgrade? I would advise contacting your account manager for this. It would be the correct way to proceed rather than using old versions that might have known issues unfixed.
As a side note, if this is just for development or test, it would be ok to install without support as you might take the risk. But anything used for production, either upgrade your PI license, or downgrade your server.
Looks like Windows Server 2016 is compatible starting from PI Data Archive 2016 R2 (3.4.405.1198). Also Windows Server 2019 is supported in the latest version (PI Data Archive 2018 SP2).
