UoM Database: how to add a "Time-Weighted Total result UoM"?

For some stock units like m3/d, a Time-Weighted Total result UoM is specified in the UoM database. I want to achieve the same for custom UoM classes to be able to use Totalizer UoM conversions for these units. This is set in the Base Units of Measure of a class, but i can't find much documentation on that topic.

So anyone around to clarify the true purpose of the Base Units of measure and/or how to configure the totalizing units for a class? E.g. why it only works if i define both the ^1 and the ^-1 base units?
