Is there any way to embed pi vision and pi data link such that we can design a screen in pi vision which shows us the tabular or grid format of real time data same as in the pi data link with all the point attributes available for display?
PI Vision provides two tables "Table" and "Asset Comparison Table" where you can use AF attributes. If you need custom table then would suggest you to use rectangle and lines to draw custom table and format accordingly. You can use collection to generate similar rows or symbols and include all attributes required from AF.
Thank you for the suggestion. But we require a pi vision screen where the tabular form of data which is created in pi data link should be displayed in pi vision display [need a suggestion how to embed pi vision and pi data link].
In a very short way, it is not possible. PI Vision contains a very small area of technology that's used in Microsoft Excel. It is impossible to embed an excel spreadsheet into PI Vision screen. This is why Lal Babu Shaik recommended you to make a use of the 2 native PI Vision table symbols. It is a native way to present PI data into a tabular form in Vision.
However, because of the framework PI Vision used, the format will not be exactly the same as PI Datalink and possibly lack some of the powerful excel features.
If you do feel strongly about some functions that PI vision would like to contain, then please let us know in User Feedback for OSIsoft Products and Services
I have seen constructions where Excel is run scheduled in the background, a screenshot of the Excel is taken, and this screenshot is shown in a Webpage. So it is doable, but it's a very very expensive solution as this goes against many security measures and has many other inherent problems and difficulties. So if you need to ask, then don't go down that route.
Having said that, you typically use PI DataLink to retrieve PI data in a specific form. Other ways to achieve that are e.g. to retrieve data using PI ODBD / PI SQL Client / PI OLEDB Enterprise, optionally through SQLserver and/or SQLServer Reporting Services, and embed that report or table using a custom symbol. Also not an easy solution.
I think the key question we need to ask first: what do you need to solve functionally? I can imagine there are existing Excel-sheets that contain a lot of business logic, and that you cannot easily pull that business logic out of Excel. But doing that, and moving to AF and PI Vision would make the overall solution better manageable.
