The error indicates that the account running the scheduled backup does not have enough permissions to access the PIFD database.
You will need to identify the account running the backup service and give sysadmin, db_owner, or db_backup operator role in SQL.

Thank you very much for the advice. Going onto the cloud environment and giving the sysadmin role to the SYSTEM user fixed this issue. It may be a good idea to amend the training videos to tell users to set this up, or to have the environment already configured in this way for future users.
