Custom Data Reference - Force An Update

We have a system where lab values and test times are entered; these values are pulled into PI.

However, there is a request to have the lab values saved at the test time, not the time the values were entered into the system.

For example, the test is executed at 10:00 AM, but not entered until 12:30.

So... a new tag needs to be created and populated with the lab value at the actual test time.

A custom data reference has been written that update the tags with the value at the actual test time.

However, the CDR only seems to execute when the element is refreshed.

I have tried adding the CDR attribute as part of a periodic analysis, but that isn't forcing the CDR to execute.

How can I force the CDR to execute on a timely basis?
