Can someone help us to understand what is SSL certificates? We are getting some notifications/alerts that SSL certificates are expiring/expired from machine where AF server is installed. Can we ignore it?
SSL certificates enable end to end encryptionfrom source to desination. If you are configure your website with HTTPS then it requires a certificate for secure communication. If certificate is expired or going to expire then few components will not work post expiry date or you will receive certifcate error to add in exception. To be on safe side, request you to contact your security or server team to generate certificate. You can generate if you are permissions using MMC console on the server or request your security or windows team to generate.
You can refer steps in the blog :https://pisquare.osisoft.com/message/126700-re-certificate-for-pi-vision-and-pi-manual-logger-web#comment-126700 as a reference.
This error is coming from some web server component on the same server that you have installed AF on, but this error is not related to PI AF. Have you installed PI Vision or PI Web API on this machine? Do you have another application running on the Default Website of the server?
Here is a beginner's guide to SSL (TLS) certificates and how they work.
What is an SSL Certificate?
It is important that when you are using SSL certificates that they are valid and not expired as any client using the application with the expired bound certificate will either reject loading that application outright or present errors to the user to accept or deny.
