What would I do to give a user permission to create/edit tags/points while not allowing them to be able to delete tags/points
Hi Roger,I do not believe that this would be possible on the Data Archive. To edit tags the user needs read and write permissions on the target point's PtSecurity attribute. The same is true for deleting points. A possible work-around would be to give users the ability to edit already created empty/place-holder tags. The ability to create and delete PI Points requires read and write access on the PIPOINT database table, but to edit attributes you only need read access.
An overview of permissions required for Data Archive tasks can be found here. There is a separate Delete permission in AF Security if that will help your use case.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks,Javin
Thank you! Useful reminder that security and convenience doesn’t go hand in hand.
Hi Roger,It looks like we have an enhancement request for this. You can vote for it here.
Well, if you can edit the PI Point to the point that it is broken, edit and delete are almost the same. The key difference of course is in the effects on history data, where a delete of a PI Point also removes the data...
