I was following along with video 5.4 in the training environment. For the section about testing the API: nothing appears in the Trust field for me in SMT Network Manager Statistics for apisnap.
Sorry for the delayed response. Did you ensure that apisnap was still running when attempting to check the connection on PI System Management tools? If you close out of the command prompt after running apisnap it will also terminate the connection to the data archive. I would also recommend reviewing the message logs on the PI Server at the time of when you connected using apisnap to see if a connection attempt was logged.
If you would like to hold a WebEx session to continue investigating please let me know and we can arrange a time to take a look. I will be available majority of today and tomorrow.
When following the video were you able to run apisnap on PIINT1 and search for values for cdt158 or sinusoid like the video? If values come back, it is likely utilizing a Mapping to connect to the PI Server.
API connections, such as apisnap, by default is unable to connect to the PI Data Archive without a trust. However, with the release of PI API 2016 API connections are now able to utilize mappings. Since the virtual training environment has been updated to use PI API 2016, it should be expected that apisnap connects to the PI Data Archive (PISRV1) with a Mapping rather than a trust.
I would suggest reviewing PI Network Manager statistics again and verifying that there is an entry in the OS User field rather than in the trust field.
Yes, I saw a good, current time-stamp value for cdt158. But there is no entry in either OS user or trust field
Just re-reviewed the video. I don't have anything named snapE in Network Manager Statistics. The screen shot I sent was of the only thing with "snap" in the name that I had. Sounds like it's time for another WebEx...
Now I get it:
