Im just curious what size databases are out there i have been running the EMDVB interface for ~ 2 years and i am at 32 GB for PIFD. Not sure if this is the location for this question im new to this forum.
I have seen database sizes vary quite a lot. You can check the space required by the EventFrames to look at the space consuption of the EventFrame tables in SQLServer. E.g. i have one DB at hand here with 7Gb for 4.25M records in EventFrames table, and another 41Gb in EventFrameAttributes for 72M records. That DB runs on about half of the assets in a modest-size factory, and has been running for 2.5 years.
There is a overly modest assumption of AF/SQL database size requirements in the PI Sizing recommendations sheet. In practice you need to measure based on a representative set of EventFrames, and do the math to calculate the size for the EventFrames generated (records versus size), and use that in projections into the future.
In addition, there is another good practice but also not documented, that the memory of SQL should be around 50%-60% of SQL database size to get good performance. Bad performance can lead to serious issues!
